This project consisted of a series of 18 performative episodes over a 6 month period culminating in a final action outside the Mauritshuis Museum in the Hague where Vermeer’s painting is housed. Each performative episode was devised intuitively in the preceding week and performed with no rehearsal. The ‘pearl’ at the centre of each performative action was the continual return of the pose. The series generated 2000 photographic portraits.
